Privacy policy

What we collect

• Account: your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we also receive the identifier and email address that provider shares with us (with Apple, this can be a private relay address).
• Profile: your first and last name, a username, your date of birth, your study details (status, country, university, campus, course and year) and, if you choose, a phone number and your gender.
• What you add: community posts and replies, reviews and tips about places, marketplace and housing listings, society announcements and events, airport ride plans, and photos you choose to attach.
• Messages you send in conversations with other students.
• Events, societies and orders: the events you join, entry passes, tickets and merchandise orders, and the payment reference a society gives you.
• Your settings and activity: saved items, societies you follow, life-admin progress and target dates, notification preferences and prayer-time settings (calculation method and school of thought).
• Push notifications, only if you turn them on: your device’s push token, its platform and your app language.
• If you choose to receive occasional emails about new features, events and opportunities, a record of that choice.

What we do not collect

• Your location. If you ask the app to use your current location for prayer times, it is used on your phone to calculate them and is never uploaded or stored.
• Payment card details. Societies take payment on their own external payment pages; the app never sees your card.
• Contacts, microphone recordings, health data or your advertising identifier.
• Search queries are sent to answer your search and are not stored.

The app contains no advertising or tracking tools. This beta build sends no analytics and no crash reports to us.

Permissions on your phone

• Camera: only for event organisers scanning entry passes at the door.
• Photos: only through the system picker, when you choose photos to attach. Only the photos you pick are uploaded, with their embedded metadata removed.
• Location: only when you tap to use your current location for prayer times.
• Notifications: only when you turn them on.

How we use it

We use this information to run the app’s features: your profile, community, societies and events, marketplace and housing, messaging, airport ride coordination, reminders and notifications, and to keep the service safe through reporting and moderation. We do not sell personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Who can see what

• Other signed-in students see your username, your name unless you hide it, the content you post and any profile details you choose to show. You control these in Profile → Privacy and preferences.
• Your date of birth and phone number are never shown to other students. Your gender is private unless you choose to show it.
• Messages are seen by the people in the conversation. They are stored on our servers so both of you can read them, and are not end-to-end encrypted.
• Nothing students write is published on the public website.
• Our moderation team sees content that has been reported and the moderation history needed to act on it. They cannot see your date of birth, phone number or gender.

Safety and moderation

You can report posts, replies, listings, reviews, messages and profiles, and block other students. Reports, the messages attached to them as evidence and moderation history are kept so that safety decisions can be made and reviewed.

Service providers

• Supabase hosts the database, sign-in and file storage, in its London (UK) region.
• Expo’s push service and Apple’s push notification service receive your push token and the text of each notification, at the lock-screen detail level you choose (minimal by default).
• Apple and Google receive what their own sign-in flows receive when you use them.
• Apple distributes the beta through TestFlight.

Data travels to these services over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

TestFlight

Apple runs TestFlight under its own terms and privacy policy. When you test the beta, Apple may collect information such as crash reports, usage information and the feedback and screenshots you choose to send, and share some of it with us so we can fix problems. We use it only to improve the app.

Downloading your data

In the app, go to Profile → Your data and account → Download your data. After you sign in again to confirm, we prepare a ZIP file of your account data and the photos you uploaded, available through a private link for 24 hours. It includes the messages you wrote, but not other people’s messages or private details.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Profile → Your data and account → Delete your account. You sign in again to confirm. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

• Your profile and sign-in details are removed, and your username is retired so nobody else can take it.
• Your posts and replies are shown as from a “Deleted account”, so other students’ replies still make sense. Your reviews, tips, marketplace and housing listings are withdrawn, and open ride plans you created are cancelled.
• Conversations remain for the other person, with your messages shown as from a “Deleted account”.
• Reports, the evidence attached to them and moderation history are kept for safety.
• Records of event tickets and merchandise orders are kept without your identity (amounts, references and dates), because the society needs them for its own accounts.
• Your email-preference record is deleted.
• Photos you uploaded stop being shown in the app. During the beta, the automatic clean-up that removes the files from private storage is not yet running, so the files may remain there until it is.

How long we keep information

We keep your information while your account exists. After deletion, the records described above are kept as explained. We have not yet set fixed retention periods for the safety and order records that are kept; when we do, this policy will say so.

Occasional emails

Choosing to receive occasional emails about new features, events and opportunities is optional. None are sent during the beta. The app does not yet have a switch to withdraw this choice; to withdraw it, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the app or this policy changes, and change the effective date above.
